Payday Super Is Here. Is Your Business Compliant?

Payday Super Is Here. Is Your Business Compliant?

Payday Super commenced on 1 July 2026, bringing one of the biggest changes to employer payroll obligations in recent years.

Rather than paying superannuation quarterly, employers are now required to pay employees’ super contributions at the same time as their wages. Whether you pay your staff weekly, fortnightly or monthly, super must now be processed alongside each pay cycle.

For many businesses, this means reviewing payroll systems, adjusting cash flow planning and ensuring processes are working as intended.

What Does This Mean for Your Business?

If you’ve already transitioned to Payday Super, now is a good time to check that everything is operating correctly.

Some key questions to consider:

  • Is your payroll software correctly processing super with each pay run?
  • Are your payroll processes meeting the new timing requirements?
  • Have you adjusted your cash flow forecasting to account for more frequent super payments?
  • Are your payroll records accurate and up to date?

Even businesses using automated payroll software should take the time to review their processes, as small errors can quickly become ongoing compliance issues.

More Than a Payroll Change

While Payday Super is designed to improve retirement outcomes for employees, it also changes the way many businesses manage working capital. Instead of setting funds aside for quarterly super payments, employers now need to ensure sufficient cash is available each pay cycle. For some businesses, this may require adjustments to budgeting and cash flow management.
